Designer fabrics for hotels: Lock & Key, Liverpool
Successfully restored to its former glory, Lock and Key is a gorgeous Georgian Grade II Listed townhouse located in the middle of Liverpool city centre.
After a significant refurbishment which incorporated Cristina Marrone’s designer contract FR fabrics, the 26-room boutique has been valued at an estimated three million pounds.
Luxury velvet fabrics and bold designs
This gorgeous boutique hotel has as the accolade of being listed in The Sunday Times' 100 Top British Hotels and it’s not difficult to see why. Each room has its own signature design scheme, featuring striking wallpaper with floral motifs, rich thick carpets and velvet upholstery throughout. This led The Sunday Times to comment that it gave them ‘a feel of Golden Age Hollywood’ and this is a feeling that is evoked throughout the building. What is really interesting though is despite each room being unique, the use of hotel fabrics such as Cambio, means that all the areas seamlessly tie in together, creating one coherent experience.
Liverpool’s Ropewalks, an area with a rich history
The Liverpool Lock and Key hotel is situated in the Ropewalks area of the city which is named after the rope-making industry that the quarter was famous for. Inspired by the rich heritage of the surrounding area, this refurbishment project involved restoring many of the building's original features. And you do get a sense that the rich opulence of discovery is reflected throughout the scheme - with touches of gold, botanical wallpaper and deep ocean blue velvet upholstery.
Cambio: A natural choice for designer hotel fabrics
The design team behind Lock and Key needed high-end materials that were also robust. It was important for them to choose a commercial fabric supplier who was not only reliable, but could supply excellent designer quality fabrics that would elevate their designs and stand up to heavy use. Cristina Marrone has a broad range of fabrics for hotels and so became the ideal choice.
The main fabric of choice was Cambio. This is a gorgeous luxury soft plain velvet making it perfect fabric for upholstering the bespoke modern headboards which feature in the bedrooms. This type of velvet makes an excellent choice in these luxury settings as its nap means that the colour of the fabric will change depending on which way the light in the room hits it.
Aside from the rich aesthetic, Cambio has an impressive 80,000 rubs as well as the scope to be treated to Crib 5 contract grade. Therefore, it not only looks incredible but it has significant durability - helping designers to strike the perfect balance between functionality and elegance, making it perfect for hotel fabrics and other communal areas with significant footfall.
The designers at Lock and Key Liverpool opted for a dark and sultry colour scheme using rich Cambio Teal and deep Cambio Royal blue and the results were stunning. Cambio is a diverse velvet that is available in thirty-four incredibly varied shades. These range from subtle pastel hues to vibrant tones that truly pop.
