Transforming spaces with abstract fabrics
Favoured by minimalists seeking a pop of colour and maximalists alike, abstract print is a design trend that continues to endure. This year we’re continuing to see the style grow in popularity with contemporary ranges such as Venezia proving popular for a range of domestic and commercial projects. Here’s why we think it’s proving popular and how it can work to transform your space.
Creating Visual Interest
With bold vibrant colours and more unique designs, abstract prints serve to transform a space by creating a point of visual interest. Whether adding an elevating finishing touch to a residential sitting area or adding an eye catching twist to a commercial space, introducing a little abstract can often be the secret ingredient that ties an entire scheme together. So get playful with Venezia’s geometric prints or Accento’s playful splashes of colour.
While there’s no doubt that an abstract print can be visually compelling, they’re also incredibly practical. This makes them ideal for commercial applications. The jacquard patterns seen in ranges such as our Bergamo or Extravaganza serve to hide day to day spills, with the latter being machine washable.
They’re also robust enough for commercial applications with the Accento boasting an amazing 100,000 rubs. Great news for interior designers who can incorporate geometric, expressionist or symmetrical designs into their schemes without compromising on the quality or durability of their fabrics. In fact, many of our fabrics can be treated to Crib 5 contract grade and even GreenFR.
Ooze Personality
Above all, whether designing for yourself or a client, abstract fabrics allow you to create a truly personal space. When opting for abstract there is always such a huge range of colours and patterns available making it easy to match personal tastes or brand colours while creating a truly striking contemporary design. Moreover, abstract designs can evoke creativity, stimulate conversation, and influence mood, making them a powerful tool in creating the desired ambiance, whether calming, energising, or inspiring. From upholstery and curtains to cushions, abstract patterns allow you to create a scheme that is unique and personal.

VEN3726
This luxurious contemporary velvet is simply divine and looks delightful in both domestic and commercial settings. We definitely see a constructivist influence in this design and while the neutral colours complement each other, the occasional pop of mustard makes the pattern somewhat unpredictable and playful.
EXT2542
Extravaganza is a great collection and has proven to be extremely popular with customers who have used it to cover everything from vintage Parker Knolls to contemporary high backed chairs. This design in particular marks a very deliberate shift away from neutral chenille to something that is much more daring, while still being comfortable to the touch.
ACC3121
Moving away from impressionist influences, there are many designs in the Accento range that are a pure celebration of symmetry. Patterns such as this can be very pleasing to the eye, creating a sense of order and balance. And, with 100,000 rubs they’re very hard wearing - perfect for busy areas with high footfall which could benefit from a calming, crisp design scheme.
